Travel guide of Logan-Cache AirportOn a foggy day, I looked over the valley and saw the air traffic control tower rising above the fog. In Northern Utah, we get bad inversions and the nasty air just hangs out for weeks at a time.

This is looking down from the roof of the Wind Caves, the highway is way down there in the center of the picture. The trail takes you to the roof of the cave and you have to scramble down to the cave itself thru some openings in the back of the cave. The view from my backyard of the pink sky caused from wildfires burning in the Tooele, UT area. There is a very large wildfire that is not under control yet that is believed to be started by people playing target practice. The area is extremely dry and the smallest spark will cause deadly wildfires, especially in the hot summer months. There was a small wildfire last night in Ogden Canyon that was very close to my home , but only burned 4 acres before it was stopped.

I took this flying out of Utah on my way to California to get out of the Utah winter haze. In Salt Lake we experience this awful weather phenomenon called ‘inversion’ where all the icky pollution gets trapped below the mountain ranges. It gets so bad in the winter it becomes hard to breath. However, sometimes the haze creates the most eerie, yet beautiful, scenery. I was stuck by this scene because of it’s beauty but also by the strange notion that it wouldn’t ever look like this if not for human pollution in the air.

Basalt cliff seen here was noted in journals by early explorer John C Fremont. Bear River, seen at left, flows northward from Bear Lake on the Utah-Idaho border, wraps the tip of the mountain seen here, then turns south and west before emptying into the Great Salt Lake. This is the Great Basin - west of the Continental Divide, but no water reaches the Pacific Ocean. Just beyond this point, the California Trail parts southwest while the Oregon Trail continues northwest. This is the northern terminus of Wasatch Mountains.

On our trip to Utah, my husband and I explored the Great Salt Lake. It was a very cold, windy, and foggy day. I was looking at the lake, but turned around to gaze at the mountains behind me. This photo makes me feel empowered, adventurous, and at peace. The pop of red is my favorite!
